Dialysis is a life-saving treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease. Creation of arteriovenous (AV) fistulas are often the best option for permanent vascular access in these patients. Once mature, AV fistulas allow a conduit for regular dialysis, however, failure rates remain high (reaching up to 70%) due to lack of fistula maturation; often requiring secondary surgeries or percutaneous interventions to promote clinical usability.

The Alucent NVS Vessel Restoration System is designed to create a natural, stent-like scaffold using the body’s own tissue and processes. An all-in-one, integrated procedural system, Alucent NVS combines standard angioplasty techniques with a small molecule drug that when photoactivated, promotes extracellular matrix protein linking inside the vessel walls.

PAD is a common circulatory problem in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the extremities – generally affecting one or both legs. It is caused when the inner lining of arteries located outside of the heart get damaged by factors such as smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, elevated triglyceride levels, and/or diabetes. Once vessels are damaged, plaque can form and build up, which causes arteries to narrow (atherosclerosis). The most common symptom of PAD is leg pain which can range from mild discomfort to debilitating pain – making walking and other physical activities difficult.
