The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), founded in 2004 by Doug Larkin and Linda Reinstein, stands as the largest independent asbestos victims’ organization in the United States. This non-profit, a 501(c)(3) entity, was born out of personal tragedy and has grown into a powerful source of advocacy for those affected by asbestos. With over 50,000 individuals in its network, ADAO is dedicated to eliminating asbestos-related diseases.

Our Mission and Vision

ADAO is dedicated to preventing consumer, environmental, and occupational asbestos-caused diseases through national and international education, advocacy, and community initiatives. Our vision is an asbestos-free world, where no one suffers from asbestos-related conditions.

What We Do

Education – ADAO champions education through:

An extensive library of resources, including graphics, videos, and factsheets.
The kNØw Asbestos website, a comprehensive guide on asbestos.
Participation in international conferences and events.
Hosting the Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference.
Educational briefings to members of Congress and collaboration with the EPA’s Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC).

Advocacy – Our advocacy efforts include:

Organizing the annual Global Asbestos Awareness Week every April.
Hosting Congressional staff briefings since 2004.
