This course introduces what causes infectious disease and the methods used to control and prevent them from spreading. Did you know that our skin is home to millions of microorganisms including bacteria, fungi, and viruses? These microorganisms are everywhere - they are both on and in our bodies, in the air, on surfaces in our homes and workplaces, and in the soil! Some microorganisms cause no harm, others help us like those on our skin and in our gut, and others can make us ill, some extremely ill. The organisms that make us ill are known as infectious agents.
