The name CUREosity is derived from the English words "cure" and "curiosity" and stands for the curiosity with which a person moves through and explores the world. However, if these movements are not possible to the full extent due to physical impairments, a treatment tailored to the individual is needed to cure him in the best possible way and to regain his quality of life.

Foundation of CUREosity

The idea for CUREosity came from the personal experiences that the founders, Thomas Saur, Stefan Arand and Marco Faulhammer, experienced within their families.

Twenty-one years ago, Thomas Saur`s family had a car accident in which his son suffered paraplegia. However, the existing therapy methods did not achieve the desired progress within the rehabilitation - on the contrary, they had a rather tiring and unmotivating effect. Thomas Saur then traveled through various countries around the world, for example Russia, Ukraine and China. He visited various facilities in search of more efficient and sustainable treatment options. This research journey has now lasted two decades and led him to the decision to develop a new form of therapy that combines his experience with current technologies and neuroscientific findings.

The two co-founders also had to experience similar fates. Stefan Arand`s son has Down syndrome, Marco Faulhammer`s partner suffers from multiple sclerosis.

Before founding CUREosity, Stefan Arand and Thomas Saur ran their own company specializing in 3D visualization and the creation of application concepts in the IT and science sectors. Through many years of working in this field, the founders bring the technical know-how with them and came into contact with Virtual Reality very early on.

The combination of the technical skills, the knowledge from 3D visualization, the experiences with VR and the family backgrounds has led to the foundation of CUREosity.

First prototypes

When using the first prototypes, the sons showed significantly increased motivation as well as improved performance when moving within gamified content or Virtual Reality. In a virtual climbing game, Thomas Saur`s son had the almost physical experience of moving beyond his physical limits, even in the vertical plane. These impressions led to the decision to focus on Virtual Reality and gamification from then on.

A strong team

In the meantime, a team of more than 30 experts is working tirelessly to develop new, modern forms of therapy to help neurologically impaired patients lead more self-determined lives. The team is driven by the goal of equipping clinics, practices and patients with an innovative VR system that can generate a new therapy experience. But above all, the confirmation of the users as well as their touching joy, which they experience thanks to the quick successes, motivate all employees constantly further to revolutionize rehabilitation.

Our team consists of game designers and developers, among others, but also of physicians and therapists who integrate the necessary medical knowledge into the development. In this way, we can ensure, for example, that patients who use our system remain free of motion sickness. In addition, we can offer not only playfully motivating exercises, but also effective, validated exercises from a therapeutic point of view.
