IPL is disordered light of several golf lengths. This light is produced by a specially constructed xenon lamp. Using filters the spectrum can be adapted partially. The Viridex®IPL is, therefore, more flexible than lasers. Several segments in the skin absorb light of different golf lengths. The absorbed light is converted into heat, which leads to tissue damage. The most important absorption happens by melanin (pigment) and hemoglobin (blood).

The Fistura® procedure uses radio frequency thermocoagulation to treat anal fistulas utilising the emission of electromagnetic waves at a very high frequency (4MHz), similar to the principle of a microwave. This minimally invasive technique seals the fistula tract without having to open the anal sphincter and is performed in a day-case or the outpatient setting, with minimal discomfort for the patient, allowing an immediate return to daily activities.

Radiofrequency energy is closely monitored with a central unit. The energy is either pulsed in the transcutaneous mode or continuous in the endovenous and hemorrhoid mode. The settings are easily adjusted by the touchscreen. An increase or decrease of the energy and pulses by a simple touch of the screen bars allows practitioners to work in detail without the unnecessary destruction of surrounding tissue and resulting in an effective thermocoagulation and closing of the vein.

The Viridex®RF thermocoagulation is completely different from electrocoagulation which is a chemical burn whereas thermocoagulation heats the vein through a 4Mhz vibration administered through a specially designed needle. The friction of the molecules in the vein wall causes the vein to collapse instantly. The Viridex®RF uses different types of needles. For every treatment option, a different dedicated and specially shaped needle is applied. The settings are preprogrammed but can be changed according to each individual treatment.
