A Background with a Solid Foundation in Orthopedic Robotics

Neocis, Inc. was founded in Miami, Florida in 2009 by Alon Mozes, PhD, and Juan Salcedo – innovators and visionaries in surgical robotics for over 20 years.

Dr. Mozes started his career at Sportvision, the special effects company focused on real-time enhancements for sports broadcasts, such as the First-and-Ten yellow line for NFL games. While there, he earned an Emmy for his development of the baseball pitch tracker “K-Zone Effect” on ESPN.

The technology used for those effects closely parallels the technology used in robotic surgery, i.e. hardware and software engineering for camera-tracking of a baseball pitch is similar to robots tracking real-time surgical and patient movement.

Dr. Mozes then moved to Mako Surgical where he met Juan. As principle design engineers, they developed the ground-breaking RIO system for guided orthopedics surgery. Dr. Mozes and Juan’s contribution to Mako’s resounding success led to the company’s IPO and subsequent sale to Stryker in 2013, redefining Stryker’s presence in the world of joint and hip replacement surgery.

The Birth of Yomi

Alon Mozes and Juan Salcedo then looked to the dental surgery field, inspired by Mozes’ own father, an experienced endodontist. They developed and patented a robotic prototype that could assist in implant surgery, and they subsequently named it “Yomi.” – after a family dentist friend.

By 2016, Neocis completed a successful clinical study and received market clearance from the FDA.

Yomi is defining the next generation of dentists

Yomi is now being used at leading dental schools to help train the next generation of implant dentists with the latest in robotic technology. Yomi robotics can be found at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine – one of the most progressive and digitally focused dental programs, as well as the University of West Virginia’s dental school. In addition, our founder, Alon Mozes, is now a proud partner of Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and sits on their Board of Directors.

Yomi today

Today, Yomi is the first and only robotic device for dental surgery commercially available in the United States and is in clinical use with leading dental surgeons who share the goal of establishing Yomi as the new standard of care for dental implants.
