COVID-19: A global clinical program

Microtubule trafficking networks play a critical role in viral infection, replication, and spread. In addition, microtubule trafficking networks play a key role in transporting proteins necessary for inflammasome assembly and activation, leading to release of pyrogens and cytokines. Targeting microtubules could be the key to fighting infectious and inflammatory diseases.

A novel approach to treat breast cancer

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, with an estimated 287,850 new cases and 43,250 deaths expected for 2022 in the United States. Treatments that target the estrogen receptor (ER) have been the mainstay of breast cancer therapy, but unfortunately almost all women will eventually develop resistance to endocrine therapies. Alternative treatment approaches will then be required, including IV chemotherapy.

Triple negative breast cancer, which accounts for 15% of all breast cancers, does not have an ER or a progesterone receptor (PR) and does not make human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). As a consequence, triple negative breast cancer is an endocrine-resistant, aggressive cancer that grows and spreads faster than ER+ and/or HER2+ breast cancers. And because triple negative breast cancer eventually develops resistance to currently used chemotherapy drugs, treatment options are limited.

Addressing unmet medical needs in prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, with an estimated 268,490 new cases and 34,500 deaths expected for 2022 in the United States. It is expected that one in eight men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime.

Prostate cancer has become a chronic disease with new challenges. Metastatic prostate cancer may develop resistance to currently used drugs. Patients undergoing treatment may suffer from long-term side effects such as hot flashes, bone loss and fractures, loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, and loss of muscle strength and stability.
