Redipor- Brochure
Prepared MediaCherwell Laboratories has been manufacturing prepared microbiological media under the Redipor name since the early 1980s. Flexibility is key to Redipor’s philosophy. The ability to supply small or large users quickly withoutsacrificing quality is a must in today’s competitive market. The Redipor range covers a wide variety ofmedia types and includes a selection of commonly usedirradiated media, available for immediate despatch fromstock. A range of dehydrated media brands can also besupplied, plus customer-specific formulations and specialpackaging options. The Redipor brand has built a strong reputation withinthe pharmaceutical industry for high quality productsand a flexible, efficient service. All products are manufactured under the control of an ISO9001:2000 registered Quality Management system. At the core ofthis system is a desire to continually improve the qualityof the products and service offered. Why Redipor? In the past two decades more andmore users within the industryhave been turning to ‘buying in’ prepared media. This change has been driven by areduction in laboratory resources, together with a need to reduce costswhile improving quality. ‘Buying in’offers the user cost savings associatedwith both volume production and afully quality controlled, certificatedproduct. However, to be of maximum benefit, a prepared media manufacturer must be flexible andreactive to the individual needs of it’scustomers as well as industry requirements. The Redipor range has for many yearsbeen associated with quality productssupported by an efficient and responsive and truly flexible service forsmall to large users. With the aim ofseeking further improvements, the UKmanufacturing site for Redipor recentlycompleted a successful relocation. In 2004, a new 470 sq. m ISO Class 7clean room manufacturing facility wasbuilt to accommodate all elements ofthe Redipor range. This new facilityincludes improved segregation betweenpreparation and filling, and larger scalemanufacturing equipment. A newwater processing system has also been incorporated into the new clean room. This new resource provides the facilitiesto increase production capacity, improve manufacturing conditions and, therefore, product quality and introduce larger batch manufacturingwhilst maintaining small scale flexibility. This extensive range of Rediporproducts includes many standarditems for industry:Petri Dishes50, 90, 140mmContact Plates55mmIrradiated Media Petri Dishes, Contact Plates, Empty VialsBottled Broths & DiluentsScrew capped Universals, Alpha & Winchester bottles, Injectable Vials & DIN bottlesBroth Bags100ml up to 10 litreSpecific customer formulations such asspecialist neutralising media and agarssupplemented with Penicillinase and ß-Lactamase, together with alternativepackaging, can be supplied. As an independent manufacturer, we can also supply alternative dehydratedmedia products.ISO9001:2000FM36386“ It is our aim to be apremier supplier ofmicrobiological prepared media to thepharmaceutical andindustrial sectors .......to provide the highestlevel of service to ourcustomers throughoutall aspects of the business ”The RediporMission statementAll Redipor products are manufactured within the new cleanroom suite with some localised unidirectional air flow to maintainproduct integrity. The new suite is divided into specificareas to improve segregation. All rawmaterials are carefully prepared, dispensed and documented beforebeing sterilised using modern mediapreparators. The addition of largecapacity sterilisation units allows theproduction of bigger batch sizes. Each stage of the sterilisation cycle iscarefully controlled and monitored toensure product quality. Once completed, dispensing sets are connected and passed through to thefilling area. During the filling processregular checks are made and documented to ensure consistent product quality. Full traceability is maintained throughout the productionprocess. Individual plates are ink jetprinted with agar type and batch number, allowing quick and easy identification. The range of bottled broths, diluentsand buffers are filled in a separatearea. Pre-heating and mixing of theraw materials plus regular checksensures even distribution when filling.Bottled products are sterilised througha steam autoclave cycle which is closelymonitored. The same batch identification and documentationmethods are applied to the extensiverange of bottled products.Conditioning and final inspection ofthe finished products are an importantpart of the Redipor production process.Plated products are stored unpackedfor a few days to allow natural drying, avoiding unnecessary condensationafter packing. Prior to final packing, individual items are carefully inspectedand screened to remove any imperfections.Manufacture small sample documentPerformance testingThe assurance of product performance is vital to the commercial supply of prepared media. Detailed performance data gives customers the confidence to use ourproducts within critical areas.During the manufacturing process, random samples are selected from eachbatch and subjected to detailed qualitycontrol checks. The pH, sterility andgrowth capabilities of individual batches of media are carefully checked, using standard procedures, and documented. A productivity ratio isgenerated to assess growth performance of the individual batchagainst a reference. All products, including gamma irradiated mediawhich are checked before and afterirradiation, must comply with stringent acceptance criteria before theproduct can be released. This detailedtesting assures product quality and acomprehensive quality control certificate, showing actual data, is supplied for each batch of media. The long term performance of the finished product gives users increasedflexibility. The Redipor range of irradiated products typically have a sixmonth shelf life. Of equal importanceare the storage conditions. Rediporproducts should be stored at ambienttemperatures, not in a fridge. This notonly prevents the build up of excessivecondensation within the plate but alsoreleases refrigerator space for more critical products.“ During themanufacturingprocess, randomsamples areselected fromeach batch andsubjected todetailed qualitycontrol checks... ”or largeProviding a flexible yet reliableservice is paramount, as prioritiesand requirements from customersconstantly change due to demandsplaced on them. Many customers set up standing ordersfor regular deliveries which assists production planning. While this helpscut down on paperwork, standingorders must be flexible to accommodate fluctuating requirements.
