UV Damage and Repair Training Course Brochure

In the Cosmetic and Personal care market almost every day cream is claimed to offer a sun protection factor or SPF, and body products for summer holidays claim high SPF numbers. In the U.S. the sun-filters (UV absorbing molecules) are listed on a positive list, they are considered drugs which can be sold over the counter (OTC) and their claims (protection against sunburn, skin cancer and skin aging) are regulated by the FDA. In this 90-minute accredited online session we will review the current knowledge about the effects of solar radiation on skin, illustrate the correlation between UV damage and the clinical consequences of exposure to UV, discuss direct and indirect damage such UV absorption and DNA damage, photosensitizers and the generation of reactive Oxygen species, membrane damage, impairment of cell energy production by skin cells and of the skin immune system after UV.
