Our Products: ZeptoMetrix manufactures and provides an extensive range of quality controls and verification panels for Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) and serological and antigen-based assays. Products that are treated with our exclusive, patented NATtrol™ process represent industry-leading choices for NAT, creating the benchmark for external quality controls and verification materials found within the diagnostic testing industry. NATtrol products originate from highly purified microorganisms which are processed to alter surface proteins, resulting in products that are in an optimal state for research and testing: with intact nucleic acids, these products are non-infectious, refrigerator stable, and work with a wide variety of PCR-based assay systems. NATtrol products serve as the optimal proficiency testing option as they permit total cycle evaluation in NAT, from DNA extraction to amplification and detection.

Our Capabilities: Co-founded by James Hengst, PhD as a privately held company in 1999, ZeptoMetrix centered on the advancement of infectious disease diagnostics and pharmaceutical research products. Dr. Hengst was a pioneer in the early days of HIV diagnostics development, leading one of the very first biotech companies in Buffalo (NY), Cellular Products, prior to establishing ZeptoMetrix and elevating it to its current status as an industry leader. Today, ZeptoMetrix is a renowned contributor to the global Infectious Disease Diagnostics industry, recognized for developing and manufacturing a growing portfolio of reagents and kits, such as ELISAs, HIV p24 antigen, select antibodies, Western Blots, a vast array of panels configured for validation/verification/proficiency assessment, and both molecular and serological controls that support research and QC efforts throughout diagnostic assay development and commercialization. We house one of the world’s largest commercial archives – over one million specimens – of clinically-defined, physician-diagnosed samples from chronic and acute disease states. We also stock highly characterized seroconversion panels from HIV, HBV, and HCV infected individuals. Many of our microorganism specimens are accompanied by clinical data and testing results, making them particularly suitable for research and assay development purposes. ZeptoMetrix is vertically-integrated in its production of bacteria and viruses, possessing strong competencies in strain sourcing, propagation, purification, and further processing. With several specialized work areas, including multiple BSL 3 laboratories, we are uniquely positioned for reliability and consistency of supply while continuing to evolve our capabilities to contend with the causative agents associated with emerging and challenging infectious diseases.

Our Services: Our capabilities translate into services for both testing and custom/OEM product development. ZeptoMetrix provides services for customized product development. Leveraging our well-established core competencies, we source, acquire, and culture target organisms; configure and assemble both verification panels and external quality controls; and support go-to-market efforts of our partner~customers in a personalized manner. Our Facilities: ZeptoMetrix operations span two locations, with our corporate headquarters, R&D and technical operations (microbiology, immunology, and molecular) located on the Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus in Buffalo, New York, and our FDA-registered facility located in Franklin, Massachusetts, where primary manufacturing, assembly/packaging, distribution, biorepository management, and Customer Service reside.
