The operation and maintenance of pipelines is globally recognized as a specialized field. Traditionally, specialists had to travel abroad to access new technologies and share knowledge, an opportunity limited to a few. With the restructuring of Pemex into subsidiary organizations, the need for clear leadership in the sector emerged, given the importance of each pipeline for operational continuity. This led to the creation of an international pipeline congress in Mexico.
Since 1993, the first international pipeline congress and expo was held in Villahermosa, Tabasco, led by Engineer Francisco Fernández Lagos, a dedicated professional in pipelines and hydrocarbon transportation within Pemex. These events were held annually, rotating the organization among various subsidiary organizations, and later managed biannually by the corporate office until 2017.
Currently, the Mexican Association of Pipelines and Hydrocarbon Transportation (AMDTH), composed of former oil professionals and related companies, revitalizes this important event. The congress is positioned, after the Mexican Petroleum Congress, as one of the most significant for the sector, focused on hydrocarbon transportation and its technology.
