More than 440 employees and retirees from power management company Eaton will volunteer at Camp Cheerful on Sept. 16 and 17, in conjunction with United Way of Greater Cleveland’s Days of Caring. Employees from eight Eaton Greater Cleveland locations will paint, remodel, clean, construct and complete miscellaneous repairs during the two-day event.

“Giving back to our communities is a core value of the Eaton culture,” said Eaton’s United Way campaign chair, executive vice president and chief human resources officer, Cindy Brabander. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Camp Cheerful and celebrating our fourteenth year of giving back to the community by participating in United Way’s Days of Caring program. Eaton employees will collaborate to complete 102 projects over two days. We are eager to help build a brighter tomorrow for our Greater Cleveland community.”

In 1947, the Achievement Centers’ Camp Cheerful, located in Strongsville, Ohio, opened as Ohio’s first camp with recreation programs for children with disabilities. Today, children and adults with physical, developmental, medical and sensory disabilities continue to enjoy and benefit from typical camp activities in a barrier-free environment. At Camp Cheerful, children and adults with disabilities participate in a variety of recreational activities that encourage confidence and independence, and create opportunities for lifelong friendships while having fun and improving their quality of life.

“We are thrilled to partner with Eaton,” said Connie Boros, Achievement Centers for Children vice president, recreation and sports. “ We greatly appreciate the generosity of their time and talent to positively impact our ability to provide exceptional services and experiences for children and adults with disabilities.”

In 2013 Eaton employees volunteered at Camp Ho Mita Koda in Newbury, Ohio, a camp for children with diabetes owned by the Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland.

United Way of Greater Cleveland engages the caring power of community members in philanthropy, advocacy and volunteerism to advance education, income and health in the local community. Camp Cheerful is operated by Achievement Centers for Children, a Cleveland-based non-profit organization providing support, services, and programs that help children with a wide range of physical, emotional, neurological, or developmental disabilities achieve their full potential in life. Comprehensive services to children with disabilities and their families are provided through education and autism services, therapy and our Intensive Therapy Clinic, family support, recreation and adapted sports. Charitable donations help to provide many of these critical services for families, regardless of their ability to pay.
