Who can benefit from an adjustable gastric band implant?

• Adults between the ages of 18 and 60 years with morbid obesity (BMI of > 40) or severe obesity (BMI of > 35) with at least one complication (diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea syndrome, joint disorders)
• People who have already tried to lose weight without success despite receiving specialized medical care for several months (dietary monitoring, physical activity and psychological treatment)

What are the contraindications?

• No identifiable prior medical treatment;
• Impossibility for the patient to participate in prolonged medical follow-up;
• Unstable psychotic disorders, severe depressive syndromes that have not been stabilized with a specific treatment, suicidal tendencies;
• Alcoholism or drug addiction;
• Severe eating disorders (such as bulimia);
• An insufficient mastication coefficient;
• Documented contraindications to general anesthesia;
• Diseases that are life-threatening in the short-term;
• Severe inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, severe esophagitis, gastric or duodenal ulcer, Crohn’s disease, etc.
