Abbott - Model Epic™ Max -Aortic Stented Tissue Valve
The Epic™ Max Aortic Stented Tissue Valve represents the latest advancement in aortic valve replacement technology, engineered to optimize clinical outcomes and enhance lifetime patient management. It features porcine leaflets for natural leaflet functionality, minimizing calcification and reducing the risk of re-intervention-related stroke. The valve is designed with a large stent internal diameter, facilitating a wider range of valve-in-valve procedures, especially in conjunction with Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) prostheses. A unique pericardial shield and low aortic protrusion further reduce the risk of coronary obstruction. Safety and effectiveness for valve-in-valve procedures have not yet been fully established, highlighting the importance of further clinical exploration. However, the Epic™ Max's engineered features make it an ideal choice for patients requiring bioprosthetic aortic valve replacement, offering potential benefits in surgical contexts today and into the future.
Epic™ Max is designed to refine the future of aortic valve replacement lifetime management by providing unparalleled hemodynamics* while maintaining the Epic Platform’s ease of implant, proven durability, and features designed for future intervention.
Maximize Today, Tomorrow, and The Road Ahead
The Epic Max valve demonstrates benefits experienced by both patients and surgeons:
- Unparalleled Hemodynamics*
- Ease of Implantation
- Proven Long-Term Durability
- Future Ready Valve-in-Valve** Features
The Epic Max valve is indicated for patients requiring replacement of a diseased, damaged, or malfunctioning native aortic valve. It may also be used as a replacement for a previously implanted aortic prosthetic heart valve.
Epic Max is an optimal solution for surgical aortic valve replacement and patient lifetime management. The larger redesigned internal orifice helps to alleviate the burden on the heart and reduce the load on the left ventricle. Having an index valve with a larger internal orifice area, low stent posts, and non-curtaining leaflets also has a positive effect on future valve-in-valve procedures. With the rise of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedures, the Epic Max valve is a promising option for patients today, tomorrow, and the road ahead.
Returning to life's unlimited possibilities
Tom was diagnosed with mild aortic regurgitation in his 30s and started to experience extreme fatigue symptoms 20 years later. Tom received an Epic valve which opened a lifetime of opportunities for him. He regained his energy and reengaged in activities he loves most, like surfing.
Dana didn’t know she had a valve condition and was initially asymptomatic. Her general practitioner detected her heart murmur and recommended annual echocardiograms to keep an eye on it. Over time her symptoms progressed and impacted her active lifestyle. Dana was able to return to her favorite water activities after her aortic valve replacement with the Epic valve.
PORCINE LEAFLETS natural internally mounted leaflet tissue with maximal opening (no muscle bar), complete leaflet coaptation (no central gap), no leaflet curtaining, and less calcification with reduced risk for stroke during reintervention.
