Xoft Axxent - Balloon Applicators - Radiation Therapy
Xoft offers patients and physicians a simplified alternative to traditional six-week radiation therapy for early-stage breast cancer treatment. With the Xoft Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx) System, delivery of radiation therapy in the operating room at the time of surgery is possible with intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT).
IORT may be utilized to deliver a single fraction or boost dose for breast cancer treatment. Indications currently under investigation include prostate, pancreatic, colorectal and brain cancers.
The Axxent balloon applicators are a key component of the Xoft System, empowering targeted delivery of intracavitary and intraoperative radiation therapy. The range of applicators may be filled with varying volumes of saline to best fit the contour of the surgical cavity and allow delivery of a more conformal radiation dose.
Inserted through a single incision, the balloon catheters provide a channel for the miniaturized, x-ray source to deliver isotope-free, high dose rate, low energy radiation treatment. Combined with the comprehensive capabilities of the Xoft System, the balloon applicators offer an attractive option to physicians and patients for improved flexibility, precision and personalization in the targeted treatment of breast cancer.
- Key component of complete Xoft System, an integrated, radiation therapy platform solution
- May be utilized to deliver a single fraction or boost dose• Multiple sizes of flexible silicone balloon applicators ensure precise fit, optimizing targeted treatment delivery and minimizing dose to surrounding healthy tissue• Fast dose fall-off enables treatment in a standard operating room with minimal shielding requirements
- Accelerated treatment time increases operational efficiency and patient satisfaction
- Separate ports for drainage, saline fill and x-ray source insertion• Drainage lumens allow for improved tissue conformity
- Radiolucent balloon wall improves visibility on planar film and in CT images
