NutriLock - Catheter Lock Solution
We offer a variety of lock solutions that meet the individual needs of different patients. NutriLock™ has proven especially suitable in the context of cancer treatment and parenteral nutrition. Thanks to the antimicrobial agent taurolidine, it protects patients from catheter-related complications.
NutriLock™ has been approved for instillation in all central-venous access systems. As a lock solution, it prevents the formation of bacterial biofilms so that catheters will stay infection-free. NutriLock™ is recommended for catheters in parenteral nutrition.
NutriLock™ contains 2 % taurolidine. This agent has a broad antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (incl. MRSA and VRE) and fungi (e.g. Candida).
In-between food intake via parenteral nutrition or chemotherapy sessions, NutriLock™ remains in the VAD. Please note that medical staff should always check the filling volume of each catheter or port system.
We do not recommend using NutriLock™ for patients who:
- have displayed allergic reactions to taurolidine or
- are concurrently taking medication which interferes with taurolidine.
Before using the device, NutriLock™ must be aspirated with a syringe and then flush the VAD with saline. If aspiration is not feasible, slow flushing of NutriLock™ (not more than 1 ml per 3 seconds) prior to the next treatment does not
cause any systemic effect due to its active ingredient.
NutriLock™ is available for purchase in 3 ml ampoules (single dose, 10 ampoules per box). Please note that you may use each ampoule only once.
NutriLock™ must be stored at 15 °C to 25 °C. Please note that you must not freeze the lock solution under any circumstances.
