BioSAFEModel STI -Medical Waste Treatment System

SHARE

Third-party hauling is expensive. Batch autoclaves slow you down. BioSAFE’s STI systems solve both—on-site, continuous treatment with the lowest cost per pound in the industry. Integrated shredding, low-pressure steam, and rugged U.S. manufacturing give you safe, reliable waste disposal that works as hard as you do.

Effective Solid Waste Treatment

The STI medical waste treatment system is designed to efficiently and safely manage solid waste using advanced engineering to reduce costs and minimize environmental impact. STIs can be used for:

  • Disposal of red bag waste in medical facilities
  • Devitalization of bioengineered crops in agricultural research
  • Marijuana disposal
  • Treatment of regulated garbage at ports and borders
  • Commercial processing in centralized/third-party waste
  • Treating contaminated laboratory waste

The STI Commercial Medical Waste Treatment System has all the advantages and none of the drawbacks of existing products on the market. The residue from the STI System is decontaminated, generally classified as municipal waste, and ready for landfill disposal or recycling.

Step 1

Regulated medical waste (RMW), infectious waste/ clinical waste (including animal bedding) and import waste are loaded into the system using wheelie bins or reusable tubs. Contents may include bags, boxes, sharps containers, or surgical trace carts.

Step 2

Air is drawn from the feed hopper through HEPA filters, to capture potential aerosolized pathogens that may be released during the waste dumping and shredding process.

Step 3

Containerized waste drops into a heavy duty shredder and steam is directly impinged onto the bags and sharps containers prior to and during shredding. Steam automatically decontaminates the system shredder during operation.

Step 4

Shredded waste enters the steam auger chamber where low pressure steam is injected through multiple ports immediately bringing all material to proper treatment conditions.

Step 5

The distal portion of the STI System steam jacket provides continued heating of the waste. Waste is treated for a minimum of 60 minutes prior to discharge from the auger. The Low Pressure Flash-Off Chamber allows sterile condensate to vent to the atmosphere, reducing water content by ~10%.

Step 6

The residue exits the end of the continuous feed steam conveyor (auger) into a standard self-contained compactor and may be recycled or disposed of as municipal waste.
