OptiLice uses only tempered water and a combination of flushing both below and above the waterline to remove the parasitic lice Lepeophtheirus salmonis and Caligus elongatus.

The fish pass through the system and are bathed in tempered seawater or freshwater maintained at 28–34 °C for 20–30 seconds. Scientific tests have shown that 98% of all mobile pre-adult and adult lice are removed.
