OSTEOPAL - Model V -Bone Cement for Spinal Surgery
OSTEOPAL V is a specialty low-viscosity bone cement utilized predominantly for spinal surgeries such as percutaneous vertebroplasty and balloon kyphoplasty. The cement is notable for its high radiopacity due to its high content of zirconium dioxide, an X-ray contrast agent, which greatly improves visibility under imaging techniques. Additionally, the cement is uniquely colored with a chlorophyll-copper complex, identified as E141, which further aids in its distinction during application. OSTEOPAL V is designed as a means of augmenting and stabilizing vertebral bodies, providing a stabilizing function which is primarily palliative. It addresses stabilization without treating the underlying conditions like osteoporosis or cancer, providing a solution for temporary stabilization. Physicians considering its use should be mindful of this context and ensure the product's compatibility with a patient's procedural needs.
- used in spinal surgery
- low-viscosity bone cement
- contains high content of radiopacifier zirconium dioxide as an X-ray contrast agent
- high visibility in imaging techniques1
- coloured with chlorophyll-copper-complex (E141)
OSTEOPAL V is indicated for augmentation and stabilisation of vertebral bodies in percutaneous vertebroplasty and balloon kyphoplasty
- for compression fractures of the vertebral body
- for vertebral body tumours (metastases and myelomas)
- for symptomatic vertebral hemangioma
The vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty procedure must only be considered a palliative treatment to stabilise the vertebral body. The procedure does not treat the underlying disease (osteoporosis, cancer).
