The instrument interfaces with an EEG machine to determine the response of the patient to the administered odorants. The SE700 instrument can administer up to 4 different odorants in any combination. The odorants can be administered individually or mixed in any combination. The SE700 is also able to control the concentration of the odorants individually or in a mixture. 

User Interface:

The user programs the SE700 through the built in 22” touch screen monitor. Parameters such as air flow rate, pulse duration, odorant mixture, and concentration are all selectable through an easy to use on-screen interface.

Concentration Control:

Each odorant is connected through a precise electronic flow regulator, allowing the instrument to control the concentration of the odorant being administered. The concentration can be programmed through the 22” touch screen using the easy to use graphical interface.

Up to 20 steps can be defined which will repeat indefinitely while the system is running. Note the percentage concentration of each odorant can be defined for each step. This allows the system to mix or deliver odors individually. The duration of each step can also be defined individually for maximum flexibility.

Clean Air Supply:

The SE700 houses a miniaturized air pump along with a three-stage filter to provide clean odour free air. The filters remove all dust, odours, and excess humidity from the ambient air providing clean air with controlled temperature and humidity. The flow can be adjusted through the user interfaces ranging from 0.1 L/min to 1 L/min. The surgical cart is sound insulated to minimize any noise from then air pump. The air pump uses a long-lasting brushless DC motor for minimum of 10,000 operating hours.

Odorants:

The SE700 Surgical Olfactomter uses standard compressed gas cylinders for odorants. Up to 4 cylinders can be connected to the instrument to be controlled separately. Pressure sensors monitor each input channel and provide warnings when the gas is about to finish.

Odorant Delivery to Patient:

The SE700 comes with a push to connect fitting that accepts any ¼” (6 mm) OD tubing. The odourous air is delivered to the patient via standard nasal cannula available widely with tube length of 5+ meters.

Interface with EEG Machine:

A serial interface is provided that can communicate to any EEG instrument. The SE700 will provide percise triggering when each odorant is released. The trigger will also be based on the odorant channel number to ease interpretation of the EEG signal.
