What’s in the Library? The NIWA library collection contains items in a range of formats, covering subjects including atmospheric and climate research, aquaculture, oceanography, fisheries and marine sciences. The collection includes many items unique to New Zealand, valuable historic material, major scientific journals (most held electronically) and other books and reports in our key research areas.

Who can use the services?
The library and its resources are primarily for NIWA staff, but the library provides items to other libraries throughout New Zealand and internationally through interlibrary loan schemes. If your organisation doesn’t have a library, your local public library will be able to request items from our collection on your behalf. Arrangements can also be made with NIWA library staff for onsite access to the collection in Wellington. For further information please contact the library, details below.
