1975

IIn 1975 Aldo Artusi was distinguished with the World Star Award for a reusable shipping package made of Styrofoam and a carton, which he developed in his free time.

1977

In 1977 MEDIPACK AG was founded as public limited company.

On the street Blautraubenstrasse in Schaffhausen thermoformed shipping packages made of polypropylene (PP) were produced using semi-automatic thermoforming machines. Polypropylene is the ideal plastic for this packaging system, but at that time it was not possible to thermoform polypropylene in small series.

After about a year of development (converting the machines, tool making, thermoforming) economical production was finally achieved. A relatively short time after success sales were achieved it became necessary to enlarge the standard assortment. Marketing was done directly and through carefully chosen laboratory resellers in Switzerland, Germany, England, Holland and Austria.

1983

In 1983 the company`s name, MEDIPACK AG, brought about a very favourable turning point: The association between Medi = Medicine, and Pack = Package prompted a major medical device manufacturer to entrust us with several packaging projects for hip joints, sockets and balls, and shafts and tooth implants. Our proposals satisfied all the demands, and we were commissioned with the realisation, tool making, and most hygienic production possible.

Sales volume from this initial customer has grown continuously over the years because of additional orders, and MEDIPACK AG`s level of familiarity in the branch has grown along with it. Because of our quality, creativity and flexibility we were able to acquire new customers almost every six months.

In 1983 we moved our offices from Schaffhausen to Trüllikon.

1993

In mid 1993 the construction of the first clean room was complete, which meant we could begin production in the new facilities in the Mühlental Commercial Centre in 8200 Schaffhausen.

Completely on our own (because no solutions were available on the market), we planned and then implemented in minute detail the conversion of all production machinery to make it clean-room compliant. At the same time, visionary steps were taken to turn packaging in clean room conditions into a service which we could sell, and a separate room was set up for this. The entire clean room was subjected to particle measurements, and then certified as class 100,000, or respectively 100.

1997–1999

The founder of the company, Aldo Artusi, passed away in August 1997. His son Reto Artusi, who has worked in the family-run company since 1988, undertook the management of the company with its 11 employees.

In 1998 the offices moved from Trüllikon back to production in Schaffhausen, and the first 2D CAD workplace was installed. In a new clean room the first roll-fed thermoforming machine was put into operation.

The year after that we acquired our first flow wrapping machine, which produced PA-6 pouches for unsterile medical packaging. Two ultrasonic baths with drying oven were installed to clean dental parts before packaging. The same year the FDA visited us for 2 days.

1999–2002

In 1999 the first automatic pressure forming machine was put into operation, and a third clean room was built for the production of large quantities of blister packs. In this year MEDIPACK AG had 26 employees.

The economic boom in 2001 created a market situation where it was difficult to have tools manufactured or optimised at short notice. That is why MEDIPACK AG made the decision of establishing its own mould-making facilities with a CAD/CAM system and a CNC processing centre. In 2002 a launch into the area of 3D construction followed.

2003–2006

In 2003 we were able to buy from Hesta Immobilien AG the entire Mühlental Commercial Centre, which has a rentable area of 11,500 m2. This secured the production space we needed, well into the future.

In 2004 we presented our own heat-sealing machines, which we developed specifically for the area of medical production. These were an enormous success because, in terms of their price-performance ratio, they were unrivalled!

In 2004 the first trainee began training as polymechanic, with specialisation in mould-making.

Because of constantly increasing demands and orders in the area of contract packaging, a new GMP clean room, class 7, was put into operation, and separate rooms organised for final packaging.

2007

In 2007, across from our production and administration offices, we established call-off storage space with a good 1000 spaces for pallets. Today, this provides our customers with a way to set up framework agreements to make just-in-time call-off orders for their products.

By the end of 2007 MEDIPACK AG had around 78 employees, 270 customers, and an area of 3800 m2 housing its production, storage and offices.

Today, with over 130 employees, we are the system supplier par excellence for medical packaging. And the customer`s needs are still our top priority.

2013

The commissioning of our extrusion line took place in 2013. We are now producing our own PETG film. The most important elements of the extrusion process are automated, so that even small production quantities can be produced in excellent quality and within the narrowest tolerances. In order to protect the PETG film from contamination, the process runs under controlled conditions in a clean room cabin.

With this innovation, we won the IVS Innovation Prize of the Schaffhauser Platzbanken.

2014

Printing and punching Tyvek® lids quickly and efficiently - this is our goal and we have thought about how we as a Swiss manufacturer can print and punch lids efficiently and additionally under clean room conditions. The solution lies in the technology!

In 2014 we developed and installed our digital printing machine with integrated punch. We can now print and punch Tyvek® lids from a roll in a single operation. We do not work from formats, but from rolls and thus save expensive raw material.

2017

In 2017 we are celebrating a remarkable road to success based on 40 years of innovative and entrepreneurial thinking and action.

It all started 40 years ago in a small production facility and has since developed into a genuine success story. Today, MEDIPACK AG has a workforce of around 145 employees and delivers high-quality products around the world.

2017/2018

In addition to our main production location in Schaffhausen, we now also operate a certified ISO class 8 clean room in Flurlingen, on the other side of the Rhine and also built two clean rooms for the digital printing and foam cleaning departments in Schaffhausen.

At the end of 2018, we employed around 200 people on a total area of 9400 m2. In a total of eight clean rooms we produce high-quality medical packaging, which is sold worldwide.

2020

In January 2020, the award ceremony of the Prix SVC took place in Zurich.

The "Prix SVC Zurich Economic Area" honors exemplary SMEs that convince through their innovative products and services, their corporate culture, the quality of their employees and management, and their sustainable track record.

A jury of seventeen experts selected six finalists from around 100 companies. The company MEDIPACK AG took the outstanding 3rd place.

2020

At the end of 2020, we were able to acquire the remaining space of our neighbouring building.
Our storage warehouse has already been located in this building since 2007. Our machines department has now also moved into additional rooms and various companies rent space in the former +GF+ fitting magazine.

2021

In mid-2021, we are taking our new clean room on the 3rd floor into operation.

The increased demand for medical packaging has prompted us to expand our production area. In addition, our first clean room has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced soon.
