Gas Analysers for Hospital Safety - Medical / Health Care
During surgery, the medical team is exposed to various risks. Among them, breathing in any dispersion of anaesthetic gases poses a real threat. These gases - which are used to make patients unconscious - if inhaled by medical staff and endangering their health, could also affect their performance on which the patient`s life depends. The Italian INAIL (National Institute for Occupational Accident Insurance, formerly ISPESL) has defined essential guidelines for this purpose concerning safety standards in the operating ward. Both the American OSHA (the body responsible for occupational safety) and the agency responsible for the European Union`s same role have expressed their opinion on this subject.
Anaesthetic gases: a risk for healthcare personnel
Analysers in surgery rooms offer a high level of safety
Usually, two types of anaesthetic gases are used in the surgery room: halogenated or non-halogenated compounds. Among the first ones, the most commonly used are:
- Halothane
- methoxyflurane
- enflurane
- isofluorane
While the non-halogenated ones include nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide.
ETG Risorse e Tecnologia has brought its long experience in gas analysis to the operating theatre. Over the years it has provided instrumentation and maintenance services to several private and public clinics. Both portable and fixed analysers are available; for the latter, we have designed an optional sampling system, which uses a centralised solution capable of monitoring several operating theatres with a single analyser, thus guaranteeing considerable savings while maintaining the same level of safety.
