Considering Surgery for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a painful or numbing condition that affects the hands and fingers. It’s caused by pressure on one main nerves of the hand, the median nerve. The nerve passes through a narrow passageway in the wrist called the “carpal tunnel” (hence the name of the disorder).
The pressure causes the nerve to become inflamed. That results in its sending feelings of numbness, tingling, or pain to your brain. The pain often feels either sharp, dull, achy, burning, or like shooting electricity.Carpal tunnel syndrome can be extremely debilitating. It can make even the most basic daily activities such as typing an email or brushing your teeth difficult or painful. The disorder is often accompanied by hand weakness and finger clumsiness. For instance, buttoning a shirt or tying a shoelace becomes a difficult task.
