Joanneum Research - Clinical In-Vivo Models
Clinical models enable realistic investigations of wound healing and are crucial for the development of new therapies. We have specialised in the development and establishment of clinically relevant in-vivo models to better understand key processes in the skin (e.g. wound healing, scarring, skin ageing,...). Our models provide a realistic and reliable simulation of clinical conditions (e.g. burn wounds, inflammation,...) and diseases. They serve as valuable tools for the development of new therapies. Our clinically relevant in-vivo models of wound healing, wound healing disorders, hypertrophic scars and skin ageing offer a variety of advantages. They allow us to study the efficacy and safety of wound dressings, medical devices (e.g. skin substitutes) and therapeutic approaches in an environment that closely mimics the clinical situation. By using these models, we can accurately analyse the effects of different treatment strategies on wound healing and tissue response.
Joanneum Research - Scratch Assays for Cell Migration Analysis
Scratch assays allow a detailed investigation of cell migration and wound healing processes under in vitro conditions. Our scratch assays offer a simple and fast method to analyse cell migration in vitro. By creating a standardised linear scratch on a cell lawn, we can simulate the wound healing process and track the movement of cells across the wound surface. In doing so, we quantify various parameters such as cell migration, proliferation and invasion. Our medium-throughput approach allows us to perform a large number of assays simultaneously without compromising on the quality of the data. We use high-quality cell culture systems to achieve reproducible and consistent results.
Joanneum Research - In-Vitro Testing For Primary Skin Cells
In-vitro testing on primary skin cells enables precise examination of skin biology and effective evaluation of products. Our dedicated researchers work with the latest methods and techniques to ensure the highest quality and reliability of our test results. We use primary skin cells (keratinocytes, fibroblasts and preadipocytes) obtained directly from human samples to best mimic the physiological properties of human skin. For example, we can analyse the toxicity or proliferative potential of certain substances. Our customised in-vitro tests offer an efficient and ethical alternative to conventional animal testing.
Joanneum Research - Biomarker Testing
Biomarkers stand for various characteristics and properties that can be determined in the human body. Biomarkers are becoming increasingly important in medicine - both in diagnostics and in the treatment of diseases. COREMED works with a network of partners (both in the clinical environment and in basic and biomedical research) to identify, develop and qualify potential biomarkers. At the same time, the aim is to drive forward the further development of medicines.
