The Zeiss OPMI MDO S5 ophthalmic surgical microscope is dedicated for eye surgery, specifically cataract surgery. Although similar in physical appearance to the MDU, it is not capable of being used for other disciplines. One of the distinguishing features of the MDO is the oblique illumination system. This is an offset light that shines at a different angle to help specifically enhance the red-reflex. Paired with the compact and easily maneuverable Zeiss S5 floor stand, this is a great value for a surgical ophthalmic microscope that doesn’t cut back on features.

The OPMI VISU series used ophthalmic surgical microscope from Zeiss for the S7 floor stand includes the VISU 150, VISU 160, and VISU 140. These surgical ophthalmology microscopes are virtually indistinguishable from one another in their optical performance and physical appearance.  Any of these models would be a good choice for Cataract surgery while the VISU 150 and VISU 160 are strong performers for needed depth and clarity while viewing the posterior segment.
