17LarsonDavisAudiometer Calibration and Electro-acoustic Test SystemAUDit™ & System 824 A comprehensive line of couplers, systems and softwareLarson Davis audiometer calibration systemscombine the speed and power of the System 824real time analyzer with the sophisticated, yet user-friendly, AUDit™ software. Standard audiometerspecification tests can be performed manually orunder computer control with greater ease thanwith any other system. To interface with the large variety of audiometertransducers, the Larson Davis family of couplersincludes NBS 9-A and IEC 318 couplers as wellas an extremely practical artificial mastoid. Finally, there is a rugged, portable solution for in-house or in-field audiometer calibration whichsacrifices none of the accuracy and stability oflaboratory instrumentation.Verify audiometers quickly and accuratelyunder computer control with exhaustive testsbased on the ANSI S3.6-1996 Specification forAudiometers limitsTest nearly every type of transducer such assupra-aural, extended range circumaural, bonevibrator, hearing aid, insert earphone, andspeakerAutomatically correct RETSPLs, microphone, coupler, and all other response adjustmentsusing AUDitTM softwarePerform level and frequency adjustmentsduring audiometer testsQualify audiometric booth ambient noisewith real time 1/3 octave analysis and fast pass/fail results for ANSI S3.1-1991Store and recall tests in databases; querydatabases by audiometer, technician, date, etc.Print custom reports and certificates for yourcustomers or for your own archivesResearch & Development• Audiometer design and testing• Earphones and hearing aids• Electro-acoustic testingIndustrial Hygiene• Audiometer certification• Clinics and hospitals• Hearing protection programsLevel, frequency, FM, and pulse measurementsare only a small portion of the capabilities of theSystem 824 real time analyzer.Narrow-band FFT and real time 1/3 octave anal-ysis speed up measurements such as THD orambient noise measurements.Since the 824 is a complete, hand-held precisionsound level meter, it is also well suited for:• measuring noise dose exposure• performing environmental noise studies• assisting in noise reduction engineeringSystem 824: Electro-acoustic analyzer and precision SLMThe perfect integration of analyzer, softwareand couplers for fast, exhaustive testingThe 824-AUD Firmware provides internalaudiometer testing functionsLarson Davis audiometer calibration systems owe theirpower to the precision System 824 sound level meter: itsstandard real time fractional octave filters are important foraudiometer tests. The 824-AUD firmware is also loaded withadditional features such as FM and pulse, 400-line FFT fornarrow-band analysis and total harmonic distortion, etc.Real time analysis for HL, frequency & THDHearing level measurements are sim-ple with the real time 1/3 octaves ofthe System 824. The full spectrum isdisplayed without having to changefilters. The 400-line FFT mode dis-plays smaller frequency bands tolocate and measure harmonics forTHD measurements.A precision counter accurately sam-ples the period of the tone stimulusand displays it along with frequency. All pulse measurements on a single screenWhen pulsed stimulus capability must be tested, simply pre-sent the tone and read all values on a single screen of theSystem 824. Rise, Fall, ON and OFFtimes are measured with millisecondaccuracy. Plateau duration and over-shoot level are also averaged anddisplayed on the same screen.Test frequency modulated stimuliThe characteristics of the FM presentation can be assessedjust as easily. The System 824 mea-sures minimum and maximum fre-quencies, calculates the carrier fre-quency and also measures the mod-ulation rate.AUDitTM Software offers test management, audiometer database, and reportingAn audiometer calibration involves much mundane but timeconsuming (and possibly error prone) note-taking and cal-culation. The AUDit™ software has been designed to sim-plify those steps and streamline testing.Complete test information and definitionMeasurement system: keeping track of test equipment iseasy as the software maintains a database of your calibra-tors, microphones, couplers and 824 SLM with model, seri-al number and calibration date information.Audiometer description: enter a complete description ofthe tested audiometer, its capabilities (such as type and fre-quencies), and its transducers. Future tests can recall thisconfiguration.Level corrections: these are done automatically fromentered microphone, coupler and other responses.Perform exhaustive calibrationsAmbient (booth) noise level test: the ambient noise of anaudiometric test must not affect the patient. LD has inte-grated this standard test in AUDit™. Simply calibrate themicrophone, then start the test. Failed frequen-cies are reported with a large red X.Speaker tests, visual inspection: these areonly two of the many tests that are available.Tests can recall the audiometer configurationsand test instrumentation from previous calibrations.Perform all, or select only desired tests: the main mea-surement screen displays a selection of tests, as well astheir current status. Oncea test is selected, simpleprompts indicate whatstimulus is required.Adjustments can be madeimmediately in some testsGenerate results, reports and certificatesResults: each test displays immediate results on screen, with measured data and standard limits. It is possible toretest each failed frequency, level or function.Custom reports and certificates: any stored calibrationmay be printed in whole or part. A certificate can also beprinted, with your own customized certification text.Export from database: should you desire even more flexi-bility, test results can be exported to your own template as.csv files.AMC493 Artificial MastoidUse this innovative transducer forno-fuss bone vibrator testingThe LD AMC493 artificial mastoid is aprecision mechanical coupler used tocalibrate bone conduction hearing aidsand audiometer bonevibrators. The AMC493 is cost effective and sim-ple to use. Its patented design convertsthe vibrator velocity output to an acous-tic signal measured with the system’ssound level meter. It is integrated withthe AEC100 artificial ear to performboth ear and bone conduction testsusing essentially the sameequipment. The AMC493 has anextremely low thermalmass compared to mas-toids that require hours to reach the23°C calibration temperature recom-mended in the standard. The AMC493is ready for use within minutes Put it inyour pocket, instead of hitting yourknees carrying a heavy case. While polymers used in other mastoidsare affected by aging and environmen-tal exposure, the AMC493 polymericparts are completely replaced eachyear during its inexpensive calibrationand certification.AEC101 IEC318 CouplerAn optional coupler for extendedfrequency earphone testingCircumaural earphones are often usedin modern audiometers offering stimuliat frequencies higher than 8000 Hz.The LD AEC101 IEC 318 coupler bet-ter represents high frequency ear-phone to ear coupling and is thereforeindicated in ANSI and other standardsfor testing circumaural earphones. The AEC101 is supplied with acces-sories to test extended frequencies onearphones such as the Koss HV1/Aand Sennheiser HDA200, as well stan-dard frequencies on TDH series ear-phones. Weights and plates for all sup-ported earphone types are neatlypackaged in a light, weather-tight case.AEC100 NBS 9-A CouplerA rugged instrument for testingTDH earphonesThe AEC100 Coupler is a precisionacoustic coupler designed primarily forthe calibration and test of supra-auralearphones used in audiometry. It allows accurate and repeatable mea-surements within its frequencyresponse (up to 8 kHz). It may also beused for production testing where cor-relation between the coupler and realear response is not a requisite.AMC493: Artificial mastoid coupler(use with LD AEC100)COMPONENTS DESCRIPTIONFrequencyrange:Static force:Materials:Dimensions:Weight:125 Hz - 8 kHz, individuallycalibrated5.4 N with added mass ringBlack anodized, laseretched aluminum disk withpolymeric inserts, stainlesssteel mass0.3” H x 1.2” dia.
