EGEC Geothermal, in cooperation with the German Geothermal Association (BVG) are pleased to announce that the 2022 edition of the European Geothermal Congress (EGC) will be held from 17th to 21st October 2022 at the Berlin Congress Centre (bcc) in Berlin, Germany. Organised every 3 years by EGEC, the European association representing the geothermal sector, EGC is the largest geothermal event in Europe. Hosting a combination of events for all the geothermal sector, EGC is a unique opportunity for stakeholders from all parts of the sector, whether academic, industrial, financial, policy-making, or societal, to come together and to learn, finding new ways to progress.

The largest geothermal congress in Europe
The European Geothermal Congress is the event which brings together the entire European geothermal sector and attracts many from outside the continent. What makes the conference unique is both its diversity and its size, as it provides a varied public with a range of different events, and is the largest geothermal congress in Europe.

The congress is organised by EGEC, the European Geothermal Energy Council, which is the trade association for geothermal in Europe. The goal of the organisation is primarily to promote its members’ interests and promote the geothermal sector in Europe and beyond.

Today, Germany is among the leading European markets for geothermal energy, as more and more regions are looking to tap into this renewable energy resource. Germany is Europe’s 4th largest market for geothermal use in district heating and cooling, and the largest one in terms of planned capacity developments.

The largest geothermal event in Europe
The European Geothermal Congress (EGC) is the biggest event that brings together the entire European geothermal sector, and attracts hundreds of people from Europe and around the world. Organised every 3 years, the congress continues the series of European geothermal events that originated under the IGA (International Geothermal Association) umbrella, the most recent of which have been EGC 2019 in The Hague, Netherlands; EGC 2016 in Strasbourg, France; EGC 2013 in Pisa, Italy; EGC 2007 in Unterhaching (Munich), Germany; EGC 2003 in Szeged, Hungary; and EGC 1999 in Basel, Switzerland.

Since 2013, the European Geothermal Congress is organised by EGEC, the European Geothermal Energy Council (copyright n°1284839), which is the trade association for geothermal in Europe. Every edition is co-organised by a national member of EGEC.

Hosting a combination of events for different stakeholders creates a unique opportunity for those working in different aspects of geothermal, whether academic, industrial or societal, to come together. EGC includes:

EGC 2022 will provide a stage to present and discuss new developments in the science, technology, industry, financing and policy aspects of geothermal energy on our continent.

The EGC2022 is designed to maximize opportunities for participants to interact, make powerful connections and exchange knowledge and expertise with leaders amongst the global geothermal community.

With a huge eagerness to finally meet in person and after almost three years of virtual meetings, we are looking forward to convening and uniting the European – and beyond- geothermal community, to drive progress and solve the energy crisis through the power of knowledge sharing and collective action.
