Step 1: Locate
Locate the ReFlow Mini Flusher dome under the skin by touch. First, find the incision. Starting at the incision, trace toward the back of the head to find the flusher dome by touch.

The ReFlow Mini Flusher dome will be located closest to the ventricular catheter and incision site.

The valve is located after the flusher and should not be used for flushing.

Step 2: Press Down
Using your finger, press the center of the flusher dome fully down using a quick, controlled motion.

When the flusher dome is pressed, it will send a small, controlled flush of cerebrospinal (CSF) fluid toward the ventricular catheter.

Step 3: Release & Wait (Note: Press, wait 5 seconds)
Once the dome has bottomed out, it may be released, allowing it to refill.

The flusher dome refills with CSF from the ventricular catheter and fluid resumes free-flowing through the shunt system.

Pause for around 5 seconds to allow the flusher to refill fully. You can feel that the dome has refilled when it returns to its original shape.

Step 4: Repeat
After a 5-second pause, repeat steps 1-3 to perform the next flush if/as prescribed by the treating physician.

Caution: Flushing of the device is only intended to be performed under the supervision of the treating physician. Do not attempt to flush the device unless you have been trained and instructed to do so by and under the care of the treating physician who has been trained and understands the use of the ReFlow Ventricular Catheter and ReFlow Mini Flusher.*
Flushing shall only be performed as directed by the treating physician and under their care and guidance.

Warning: The ReFlow System Mini and ReFlow Mini Flusher are not intended to change what you should do if you are experiencing symptoms of a ventricular catheter blockage or shunt failure. Contact your physician or seek medical help if:

  • You are experiencing any symptoms of system or component failure.
  • The flusher dome has a noticeable resistance to compression and cannot be depressed.
  • The flusher dome does not refill.
