Description:Benfotiamine (S-Benzoylthiamine O-monophosphate) is a vitamin B1 derivative that exhihibits potent antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activity. Benfotiamine can be used for the research of various secondary diabetic complications. Benfotiamine also can be used in infectious diseases such as HIV and COVID-19.
In Vitro:Benfotiamine (50-250 μM; pretreated for 30 min and then exposed to LPS for 24 h) decreases LPS-induced production of NO by suppressing iNOS-mRNA and protein level in BV-2 cells[2]. Benfotiamine (50-250 μM; pretreated for 30 min and then exposed to LPS for 6 h) suppresses LPS-induced PTGS mRNA expression and COX-2 protein expression in BV2 microglial cells[2].
In Vivo:Benfotiamine (100 mg/kg; i.p. for 14 d) alleviates STZ (HY-13753)-induced cerebral oxidative damage of FVB mice[3].
