Veebot - Automating Needle Insertion Procedure
We have developed autonomous, image-guided robotic needle insertion capabilities. We will apply this to vascular access and biopsy needle insertion procedures to improve outcomes and give patients the care they deserve. Veebot is automating needle insertion procedures through a unique combination of medical imaging, computer vision, artificial intelligence and robotics. Our prototype has successfully gained vascular access on over 25 subjects, ranging from overweight men to petite women.
1. Identify and Track
Veebot`s patented system combines medical imaging, computer vision, and machine learning to identify the best target insertion sites. Once a target site is selected, the system tracks the target in real time.
Users can also interact with Veebot through a touch screen in case they want to tell the system where to insert a needle.
2. Verify and Align
The system uses a second form of medical imaging to verify the target insertion site and obtain its depth underneath the skin. This step promises to reduce missed sticks!
Once the verification has taken place, the system automatically aims the needle along an optimal insertion path.
3. Insert
The needle is inserted autonomously and the rest of the procedure is performed.
