MedSpark - Femoral Alignment Drill Guide
Total Knee Arthroplasty (replacement) or TKA is a surgical procedure in which the knee joint is replaced by a prosthetic implant. During this procedure, the distal end of the femur must be prepared to accept the femoral component of the implant. During a typical surgical procedure, a sagittal saw (see pictures) is utilized by the surgeon to shape the bone. In preparation for the initial resection the surgeon must first locate a saw guide relative to the femur to ensure the implant will accurately restore the patient`s natural joint kinematics. The cut block is aligned via the Femoral Alignment Drill Guide with an alignment rod that`s located by a hole drilled into the end of the patient`s femur in-line with the femoral canal.
The MedSpark team has developed several types of instruments for TKA surgical procedures. One of the femoral preparation systems we`ve developed is especially useful for MIS (Minimally Invasive Surgery) techniques, which can provide superior surgical outcomes for patients. The system provides surgeons with an easy way to accurately restore the patient`s physiology, yet still fits into the tight tissue constraints inherent in MIS procedures.
