Aziyo - Fiber Viable Bone Matrix
Viable Bone Matrix for Spine and Orthopedic Procedures. Fiber Viable Bone Matrix: Fiber Viable Bone Matrix (VBM) is made of cancellous bone particles with preserved cells combined with demineralized cortical fiber produced via Aziyo’s gentle proprietary VBM process.
Aziyo has developed a proprietary processing methodology for human tissue that creates VBM allografts that contain the scaffold, growth factors and cells required for regeneration. Aziyo has designed the process to protect native elements of bone, including growth factors and osteoprogenitor cells that are known to be biologically active and critical for successful bone formation.2
Osteogenesis
- Cells capable of differentiating to bone cell lineage and synthesizing bone matrices.
Osteoinductivity
- Bioactive growth factors capable of inducing osteoblast differentiation, growth and maturation.
Osteoconductivity
- Scaffolds cued as substrate for supporting cellular activities and bone matrix organization.
Typical VBM tissue processes may include steps that can increase apoptosis (cell death) and reduce osteogenic potential.3,4,5 Aziyo’s proprietary gentle VBM process minimizes damaged, apoptotic (dying) cells resulting in VBMs that proliferate faster than competitive products, which is associated with greater osteogenic potential.2
Industry standard methods for cell counting cannot distinguish between living and dying (apoptotic) cells in the final product, leading to overestimates in the viable cell content of bone matrices. Aziyo has developed a measurement system which can demonstrate the reduction in apoptotic cell content of its products.2
