FemBloc - Permanent Birth Control Device

FemBloc is in development as the first and only in-office approach to permanent birth control without the need for anesthesia or special equipment, which would make this nonsurgical option easy to incorporate into existing practices worldwide. With a potential to be less than half the total cost of a surgical tubal ligation, FemBloc enriches the physician’s practice. FemBloc also features the first and only ultrasound approach to confirm success 90 days after the procedure.

If you do not wish to become pregnant now or in the future, permanent birth control may be right for you. Currently, the most common method for permanent birth control is a surgical procedure called tubal ligation (getting your “tubes tied”). Although effective, tubal ligation involves general anesthesia, skin incisions, and recovery from surgery.

Right now, doctors at select women’s health centers are conducting a research study for the FemBloc^® Permanent Contraceptive System – an in-office procedure for permanent birth control that does not involve surgery or incisions. Participants in the FemBloc Study will receive the FemBloc System and all study-related care at no cost.

What is FemBloc?

The FemBloc Permanent Contraceptive System is being studied as a permanent birth control method that does not involve surgery or incisions, and is performed right in the doctor`s office. The FemBloc approach consists of two steps:

Step 1 – Treatment Procedure: A thin plastic tube is placed into your uterus, and a small amount of liquid (1/4 teaspoon) is delivered towards your fallopian tubes. The thin tube is then removed, leaving only the liquid behind. The liquid triggers a natural healing process that causes the fallopian tubes to close over time, which is how FemBloc is designed to prevent pregnancy.

Step 2 – Confirmation Procedures: About 3 months later, your doctor will perform an ultrasound in the office and then you will receive a radiology test to confirm that your fallopian tubes are closed. After the results of both tests, you may be told to use FemBloc as your birth control.

The FemBloc Permanent Contraceptive System is now being offered at select women’s health centers through a new research study. If you qualify and choose to join the study, you will receive the FemBloc System and all-study related care at no cost. You do not need insurance to participate.
