Dolphin Sutures - Model Durabarb - Polydioxanone Barbed Suture
Dolphin Sutures manufactures Polydioxanone barbed suture, which is a knotless wound closure device, sterile synthetic absorbable monofilament suture made from the poly (p-dioxanone). The empirical formula of the polymer is (C4H6O3) n Polydioxanone polymer has been found to be non-antigenic, non pyrogenic and elicits only a slight tissue reaction during absorption. Polydioxanone sutures are dyed by adding D & C violet no 2 (Colour index number 60725) during polymerization.
The barbed design evenly distributes tension offering a unique combination of security and speed—increasing both efficiency and value. With barbs on its surface at an angle of 72 arranged in a spiral manner, the barbs are arranged in a unidirectional or bi directional manner.
Bi-directional is a double-armed suture. Barbs reverse direction at the mid-point of the suture. Uni-directional Barb is a single armed suture. The unidirectional barbs have a terminal loop. The suture is anchored using the adjustable loop at the apex of the wound.
- Material: Polydioxanone
- Coating: Uncoated
- Colour: Violet
- Absorption: Hydrolysis
- Sizes: 2-0,0,1
- Tissue Reaction: Grade-1, Reactivity - Slight
- Applications: Oncology, Geriatric, Gynaecology, Cosmetic surgery, Urology, Vaginal cuff closure after hysterectomy, Uro-Gynaecology surgery, myomectomy, Laparoscopy, Gastrointestinal.
- Eliminates the risk of excess bleeding.
- Better cosmetic results.
- Wound closure is faster as the time is saved for knotting.
- Wound closure is easy for the surgeons than conventional sutures.
- Eliminates the risk of loss of haemoglobin and length of hospitalization hence enhancing patient comfort.
- Reduction of perioperative complications.
- Prevents leakage of gastric juices in esophagojejunostomies.
- Eliminates the chance of suture knot breakage.
- Eliminates the chance of slippage of knots.
- Eliminates necrosis due to higher tension of placement of knot.
- Eliminates inflammation which happens near a knot (Inflammation is positive related to the size of the knot).
- Reduction of cost during operation.
- Avoids the need of consistently monitoring the tension of the suture.
- Less time to close the incision, as multiple layers (subcutaneous and dermis) can be closed together with 1 continuous running suture
- Less suture “spitting,” as there are no knots to be dissolved
- Minimal strangulation of tissue
- Polydioxanone Barbed sutures are individually packed in a primary medical grade paper folder
- Individually packed sutures are then packed in a tear-open or peel-open aluminum foil, with less than 300ppm moisture
- Aluminum foils are further packed in a secondary medical grade paper pouch laminated with polyester laminated poly film
- Sutures are further packed in cartons made from premium 320 GSM Cyber XLPac in 12 suture pack
- Boxes are further laminated in tamper proof film to protect it from dirt/dust
- Further, the sutures are packed in an export worthy 7 ply master carton which can accommodate 100 boxes ( 70 x 30 x 30 cms) – weighing up to 9 to 10kg and 200 boxes ( 70 x 29 x 59 cms) – weighing up to 18kg
