Alpha-1 Antitrypsin (AAT), is an inhibitor of the serine protease trypsin. AAT can inhibit many other serine proteases as well, and is thus a general serine protease inhibitor or serpin¹. The first part of its name comes from the fact that AAT is a protein that migrates in the alpha-1 region on serum protein electrophoresis².

Alanine Transaminase (ALT) is known by multiple names including: Alanine Aminotransferase, Glutamate-Pyruvate Transaminase (GPT), and Serum Glutamate-Pyruvate Transaminase (SGPT).
