Fixation & Infection
COPAL - High-Viscosity Bone Cement with Antibiotics for Infection Management
The COPAL G+C is a high-viscosity bone cement formulated with an antibiotic combination of 1 g gentamicin and 1 g clindamycin, designed to manage infections in arthroplasty procedures. Its distinctive green color is due to the inclusion of colorant E141. This product offers a broad spectrum of activity against pathogens that cause infections post-hip and knee replacement surgeries. The simultaneous release of gentamicin and clindamycin addresses up to 90% of pathogens found in prosthetic joint infections (PJI). It provides an initial high local antibiotic output to prevent bacterial colonization on implants and adjacent tissue. This antibiotic-loaded cement is particularly beneficial for high-risk patients undergoing primary arthroplasty, trauma cases involving femoral neck fractures, and aseptic revisions. While indications may vary by region, the product aims at enhancing infection control and ensuring effective surgical outcomes.
COPAL - Antibiotic-Loaded Bone Cement Fixation System
The COPAL G+C pro is a fixation system that integrates advanced material technology for orthopedic surgical procedures. This system features high-viscosity bone cement pre-loaded with gentamicin and clindamycin, designed to provide dual antibiotic protection. It offers a pre-filled mixing and application setup that is ready to use, minimizing preparation time in the operating room. The cement can be applied with or without vacuum assistance and supports the use of various accessories for optimal application. It is compatible with the PALAMIX cement gun and vacuum pump, adding versatility to its surgical utility. The system is available in two sizes, 40 and 80, catering to different procedural needs. Despite its broad applications, availability is limited to select countries, emphasizing the need for local consultation regarding product access and indications. COPAL G+C pro stands out with its targeted approach to combining cement application with antibacterial prophylaxis, making it a critical tool in infection control during surgical fixation.
Resorbables
Heraeus - Synthetic Calcium Phosphate Bone Substitute Scaffolds
heracure 3D is a pioneering synthetic bone substitute designed using advanced 3D printing technology, aimed at enhancing bone healing for non-load-bearing defects. This material is characterized by its synthetic, porous, and biocompatible nature, closely mimicking natural bone in both composition and structure. Made from resorbable calcium phosphate, heracure 3D forms microcrystalline hydroxyapatite, ensuring biocompatibility and efficient integration as it gradually resorbs and is replaced by endogenous bone. Its interconnected pore system facilitates osteoconduction, tissue ingrowth, and osteointegration, providing structural stability while being compatible with additional autologous or allogeneic materials. The product supports various clinical applications, including metaphyseal defect fractures and osteotomy, offering ready-to-use solutions in diverse shapes and sizes without requiring additional preparation.
Spinal Surgery
OSTEOPAL - Bone Cement for Spinal Surgery
OSTEOPAL V is a specialty low-viscosity bone cement utilized predominantly for spinal surgeries such as percutaneous vertebroplasty and balloon kyphoplasty. The cement is notable for its high radiopacity due to its high content of zirconium dioxide, an X-ray contrast agent, which greatly improves visibility under imaging techniques. Additionally, the cement is uniquely colored with a chlorophyll-copper complex, identified as E141, which further aids in its distinction during application. OSTEOPAL V is designed as a means of augmenting and stabilizing vertebral bodies, providing a stabilizing function which is primarily palliative. It addresses stabilization without treating the underlying conditions like osteoporosis or cancer, providing a solution for temporary stabilization. Physicians considering its use should be mindful of this context and ensure the product's compatibility with a patient's procedural needs.
OSTEOPAL - Low-Viscosity Bone Cement for Spinal Surgery
OSTEPAL Plus is a specialized low-viscosity bone cement designed for use in spinal surgeries, particularly in procedures such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty aimed at augmenting and stabilizing vertebral bodies. This product features a low-viscosity formulation which allows for prolonged working times, providing surgeons with the flexibility needed during complex procedures. OSTEOPAL Plus is distinctively enhanced with a high content of radiopacifier zirconium dioxide, offering superior visibility under X-ray imaging to ensure precise application. The cement is also colored with chlorophyll-copper complex to improve intraoperative recognition. It should be noted that while OSTEOPAL Plus aids in the stabilization of affected vertebral bodies, it does not address the underlying conditions such as osteoporosis or metastatic tumors. Users are advised to consult with local representatives for its availability in specific regions.
