Prefabricated headmounts for mice and rats reduce surgery time and allow for reproducible electrode placement. Mouse headmounts consist of a six- or eight-pin connector soldered to a board. They contain holes for EEG attachments and are available with pre-soldered, ready-to-insert depth electrodes or EMG leads. Rat headmounts are pre-soldered with EMG leads and/or EEG wires.

Standard headmounts for mice are also available. They have six or eight pins that are bent at a 90° angle for accessible soldering. They can be ordered presoldered with EMG leads. Because most standard headmounts are not preconfigured for any particular recording, they support flexible electrode placement for customizable cortical or depth recordings. Six or eight-pin headmounts with straight pins are also available.
