COPALModel G+C -High-Viscosity Bone Cement with Antibiotics for Infection Management

SHARE

The COPAL G+C is a high-viscosity bone cement formulated with an antibiotic combination of 1 g gentamicin and 1 g clindamycin, designed to manage infections in arthroplasty procedures. Its distinctive green color is due to the inclusion of colorant E141. This product offers a broad spectrum of activity against pathogens that cause infections post-hip and knee replacement surgeries. The simultaneous release of gentamicin and clindamycin addresses up to 90% of pathogens found in prosthetic joint infections (PJI). It provides an initial high local antibiotic output to prevent bacterial colonization on implants and adjacent tissue. This antibiotic-loaded cement is particularly beneficial for high-risk patients undergoing primary arthroplasty, trauma cases involving femoral neck fractures, and aseptic revisions. While indications may vary by region, the product aims at enhancing infection control and ensuring effective surgical outcomes.

Antibiotic-Loaded Bone Cement for Infection Management in Arthroplasty Procedures

COPAL G+C has a very broad spectrum of activity against most clinically relevant germs that can cause infection after hip and knee replacement. In combination, both antibiotics may target up to 90% of all pathogens typically found in PJI. An initial high local antibiotic release supports infection protection against bacterial colonisation of implants and adjacent tissue, which may be caused by gentamicin- and/or clindamycin-sensitive pathogens.

The use of COPAL G+C can reduce the risk of infection, e.g. in high-risk patients in primary arthroplasty procedures, in trauma cases after femoral neck fracture, and in aseptic revisions.

Indications

COPAL G+C is indicated for surgical treatment such as

  • anchoring of endoprosthesis in primary and revision arthroplasty procedures of hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, elbow
  • high-viscosity bone cement with antibiotic combination
  • contains 1 g gentamicin and 1 g clindamycin
  • radiopaque
  • coloured green (colorant E141)
