Pulmonary Function Test

COSMEd - Modular and Compact Pulmonary Function Testing System

Quark PFT is a modular and compact Pulmonary Function Testing system that allows accurate, repeatable, low cost tests over time. It has been designed to meet any physician’s configuration requirement, whether a full-featured PFT system or a basic configuration to start a private practice is needed. Quark PFT is powered by OMNIA, the new software platform, entirely designed and developed by COSMED. OMNIA provides an innovative and user-friendly interface (touch-screen ready) that allows operators to navigate and access features and testing with a minimal amount of training. OMNIA is available in a multi-language environment either as a stand-alone or as a client in a small or large network environment. All Quark PFT modules comply with the latest published ATS/ERS statements.

COSMEd - Lung Clearance Index

LCI is a more sensitive marker of abnormalities than FEV1, allowing early detection of disease in the smaller airways, down to small children. Innocor® LCI uses SF6 multibreath wash-out (MBW), standing out from the N2 MBW method: no influence of N2 back-diffusion into the lungs from blood and tissues, no impact of pure O2 on breathing pattern or gas exchange, considerably shorter testing time by wash-in during rebreathing, and no sensitivity to inspiratory leaks. The use of a fast-responding photoacoustic infrared gas analyser guarantees unmatched sensitivity, accuracy and stability.

COSMEd - Forced Oscillations Technique (FOT),

The Q-i2m module is a forced oscillation technique (FOT) system for the measurement of the mechanical properties of the respiratory system, total respiratory input impedance (Zrs), under tidal breathing conditions. FOT employs small-amplitude pressure oscillations superimposed on the normal breathing and, therefore, has the advantage of not requiring the performance of complex respiratory manoeuvres. The test is simple and fast and ideal for uncooperative patients or for those unable to perform forced expiratory manoeuvres, such as children or elderly people. Q-i2m superimposes a random signal to the patient’s breath and measure the respiratory apparatus response. The acoustic pulses are sent to the mouth at high frequency in casual sequence (Pseudo Random Noise - PRN). Q-i2m measures pressure and flow at the subject’s mouth while the imperceptible, low intense and high frequency pressure signal is applied.
